Danube Delta
My first encounter with the Danube Delta was at the age of 6-7 years old. All that I remember from that time is when I tried to catch something with the fishing rod, or a huge smoked catfish from the host's pantry, that was bigger than myself and the struggle I had when I was cutting strips from it to eat. Oh… and the fish soup cooked outside on the fire, which I spilled on my lap. Trivial things that impressed a child at that age.
The second meeting with the Delta was going to be more important, because it happened at the end of the ”Danube - from the Black Forest to the Black Sea” project, carried out in 2008. Even though on that trip I only saw a small part of this aquatic paradise, it was enough to make me want to come back. A year later, I joined the Wild Wonders of Europe photo project and accompanied Manuel Presti to the Delta. I can say that this was my first real photographic adventure into this place. Since 2010, I've been back every year, sometimes more than once, because this place got me really hooked.
I consider the Danube Delta one of the greatest natural treasures that Romania and the whole continent has. A place carrying a great value that we don't really seem to know how to protect and appreciate. A place that inspires me every time. Even though I have photographed the Delta many times, in every season and in every condition, every new trip is as exciting as the first adventure here.
